Living in the Chelsea Hotel

Linda moved into the Chelsea Hotel in 1994 with her Leica M-3 double-stroke dangling from her shoulder. As the past assistant to Ralph Gibson at the Ansel Adams Workshops, he had adjusted her strap to extend to the eye with exacting shooting ease.  Within the first months there, the bell hop introduced her to Alexander McQueen who immediately invited her to his first NYC fashion show.  Linda also got to know the actor, Ethan Hawke when he was looking for a room on her floor to shoot his film, “Chelsea Walls.” As a freelance photographer she made a well-known portrait of him and continued on with sittings with other tenants that were published in international magazines.

The images chronicle the historic Chelsea Hotel which will always exist in a new iteration and hold a special place in the hearts of many - for the unique memories created within its walls and the art works of residents and guests that continue to spread to all corners of the world.

Photographer/author, Linda Troeller won best book (Other) in the Lucie IPA Awards for Living Inside the Chelsea Hotel, Schiffer, 2015 and recently Penelope Green wrote in the New York Times that her book is special “, her own impressionistic photo memoir."

Big Rock

"Rock is bigger than ever, and not only with the baby boomers. Movies like “Bohemian Rhapsody”,  “Rocket Man” and countless streaming music documentaries are bringing the halcyon days of rock and roll to the masses -young and old alike.

I decided to do something different- to dig deep into my archives and find a handful of images that have rarely, if ever, been seen and have never been made available to any gallery before. Most are offered in extremely small editions of 3.  A few are offered in editions of only one, never to be printed again or shown in any gallery. And they are printed big, because Rock is Big. Enjoy Big Rock!" - Neal Preston
