Alejandro Cegarra | Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2014 & 2025
Mexico | Gallery opening | November 6, 2025
LOBA2025

Leica Gallery Mexico City becomes a full gallery takeover to celebrate an exhibition that brings together two of Alejandro Cegarra’s most emblematic series—powerful and deeply human reflections on dignity and resilience.

For the first time in Leica’s award history, one photographer has received both the LOBA Newcomer (2014) and the Leica Oskar Barnack Award (2025). Venezuelan photographer Alejandro Cegarra makes history as the first Latin American artist to achieve this double recognition, solidifying a career defined by empathy, narrative strength, and an unwavering social commitment.

His award-winning series The Two Walls, recipient of the Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2025, documents in striking black and white the lives of migrants along the U.S.–Mexico border—an urgent and poetic meditation on borders, humanity, and hope.

The exhibition also features The Other Side of the Tower of David, the project that earned him the LOBA Newcomer title in 2014: an intimate portrait of the community that once inhabited the ruins of an unfinished skyscraper in Caracas, a powerful symbol of resilience and self-determination.

Together, these works create a compelling dialogue—connecting two pivotal moments in Cegarra’s career and in Leica’s contemporary history.

We invite you to join us for this special opening and celebrate the talent of one of the most influential photographers of our region.
