Masterclass with Todd Hido, Mark de Paola and Mathieu Bitton
Masterclass akademie avec Todd hido, mathieu bitton et mark de paola

This Fall in Paris, join an unprecedented experience on portraiture with three global masters Mathieu Bitton, Mark de Paola, and Todd Hido. Each artist will bring their incredibly distinctive visions together for a five-day intensive program sharing their singular careers and visual styles in portraiture. There is a thread of commonality between these three artists; they have spent their lives in constant pursuit of an authenticity with each person who has collaborated in front of the lens. The program will strongly encourage each student to explore the portraiture genre while breaking preconceived rules in composition, narrative, and formality in order to discover one’s artistic truth.

In addition, this program lines up in timing just before the Super Bowl of photography, the largest and most significant photography event of the year, Paris Photo, which will take place November 13-16, 2025. We highly encourage all participants to plan their time in Paris in order to attend Paris Photo and expand their photographic horizons with the hundreds of exhibitions, talks, book signings, gallery booths, and opening events. Between this masterclass and Paris Photo, you are sure to have an unbelievably enriching week immersed in the photographic medium.

These artists’ three perspectives have reached a multitude of industries and each student will have the unique opportunity to work in small groups with each artist during consecutive days in order to experience their distinctive visions first hand.

Mathieu Bitton is a 3-time Grammy winner who has photographed entertainment and music industry legends. Name them, and he has photographed them. Need we say more? Mathieu will bring students on an intimate behind the scenes tour and photowalk of his earliest formative memories on the streets of Paris capturing street portraits of locals.

Mark de Paola is a fashion and fine art photographer and director who has lived at the nexus between stills and motion, creating with some of the world’s most significant fashion and beauty brands, and has exhibited work around the world. Participants will work with Mark on location with a full high fashion team to capture editorial images at the nexus between fashion and portraiture.

Todd Hido is one of the most significant contemporary fine art photographers in the world today, having work in more than 50 significant public institutions, published more than twelve significant monographs, and influenced the medium of cinema itself. Todd will bring a small group of participants into an interior space to work one-on-one with talent, utilizing his signature natural window light. As a master of finding incredible emotional impact in simplicity, Hido will guide each student through his process in portraiture first hand.
