Virro & Lola with the Leica D-Lux 8
Virro & Lola are not only partners in life, but also in crafting images and stories.
As a French-Mexican creative duo, they run a studio where aesthetics meet strategy, and where storytelling is more than just a profession: it’s their shared language.
In their latest series, captured with the Leica D-Lux 8, they take us to their second home in Los Cabos, showing how powerful imagery can emerge when concept and intuition, color and emotion come together.
In this conversation, they share their creative philosophy, insights into their process, and their perspective on visual storytelling - along with practical tips for those looking to tell meaningful stories with minimal gear.

About You
For those who don’t know you yet:
Who are Virro & Lola and what brought you together creatively?
We are partners in life and business, co-running a creative agency where aesthetics and strategy go hand in hand. We collaborate on projects that speak to us, shaping ideas and bringing them to life in ways that feel aligned and genuinely valuable to our clients.
Most people find us on Instagram @virroylola, drawn to our journey as a French-Mexican couple and the way we approach visual storytelling. What brought us together creatively is a shared way of seeing the world: one where the arts, poetry, and everyday life are naturally connected.
Our strengths complement each other: Virro’s eye for direction and composition, and Lola’s skill in shaping narratives through words, visuals, and strategy. Together, we strive to tell stories that are personal, intentional, and resonate beyond the image.
The Leica Connection
Your story seems deeply intertwined with travel and visual storytelling. How did photography become part of your shared language?
Photography was something Virro brought into our story; it was already a part of him long before we met. Over time, it naturally became a shared language, allowing us to document our travels and everyday life in a way that felt effortless. Beyond being part of our work now, photography helps us express what we often can’t put into words and has become a way to connect with each other and the world around us.

Creative Process & Philosophy
How do you approach storytelling in your photography? Do you plan a narrative in advance or let it unfold naturally?
Our approach is a mix of both planning and spontaneity. We often start with a loose concept or mood we want to evoke, but we stay open to letting the story unfold naturally through the moments we capture. This balance allows us to maintain intentionality while preserving the authenticity of real-life interactions and environments.
Your visuals often have a cinematic and vibrant quality with a touch of nostalgia. What influences or references shape your visual style?
We’re drawn to vibrant colors, natural light, and compositions that tell a story within a single frame. We tend to see the world through a lens that finds beauty in the ordinary, romanticizing small, everyday moments that often go unnoticed.
Our influences are varied… Wes Anderson has had a strong impact on our visual language, especially in how we approach symmetry and color palettes. Many photographers inspire us as well, including Annie Leibovitz, Alex Webb and Rene Burri, among others.
Design, art, architecture, music videos… everything becomes inspiration when you’re paying attention.

Travel & Exploration
Tell us more about the location of this photo series; what made it special?
This series was shot in Los Cabos, our second home. What made it special is that it wasn’t planned, we didn’t set out with a concept in mind. It was actually the first time we had the D-Lux 8 in our hands, and we just wanted to experience the camera in a spontaneous, intuitive way.
Do you scout locations beforehand, or are most of your discoveries spontaneous?
A combination of both. Sometimes we scout locations to find the perfect setting that fits our concept, but many of our best shots come from spontaneous discoveries and unexpected moments.
Advice to the Community
What are your top three tips for creatives who want to travel and shoot compelling stories with compact gear?
- Travel light = stay present. Don’t overthink the shot list, let your surroundings guide you. Compact gear gives you the freedom to be more present and spontaneous, so use that to your advantage.
- Look for the beauty in the everyday. Don’t chase only the “epic” moments. Compelling stories often live in quiet, ordinary details.
- Compose with intention. Even with minimal gear, you can create powerful images if you pay attention to light, geometry, and emotion. Clean, thoughtful compositions often say more than complex setups.
How can photographers best use a compact camera like the D-Lux 8 to get closer to their subjects or tell more intimate stories?
A compact camera like the D-Lux 8 is less intrusive, which helps capture genuine emotions and moments. Its portability lets photographers move freely and adapt quickly, allowing for candid shots.
