Leica Camera Japan is holding a photo exhibition spotlighting selected works by Yuto Yamada. The exhibition, titled “JAPANISM”, is shown at the Leica Gallery Kyoto.
Currently based in Berlin, Yuto Yamada is an acclaimed photographer and video creator. He studied graphic design in Tokyo and briefly worked at an advertising company. He subsequently spent some time in New York and continued to work as a freelance graphic designer after returning to Japan.
In recent years, he has focused on capturing the beauty of Japan, which he rediscovered by living abroad. The photographs presented in this exhibition were shot over a period of five years at various locations in Japan.
In 2013, I moved to Berlin, Germany, and soon thereafter began to work as a full-fledged photographer. What started out as a new vehicle for creative expression soon became a genuine passion. In 2019, I embarked on a quest to share the beautiful landscapes and vibrant cultural tapestry of my beloved Japan with the world through my art. For the past five years, and across the seasons, I have been traveling all over the country with that theme in mind. I have sacrificed sleep, carried heavy equipment, scaled mountains, traversed sand dunes, endured scorching summers and wintry blizzards, even spent 24 hours on a ferry, all in order to capture fleeting moments of miraculous beauty. I had to pour all my passion, energy, time and conviction into the endeavor, relying on every resource I had, and pressing the shutter countless times. I am delighted to have this opportunity to present some of my work at the Leica Gallery. The images displayed here were all captured with my wonderful Leica cameras and lenses. |
