Fast – Since 1966
The Noctilux 50 f/1.2 was already regarded as a technical marvel when it was first introduced at Photokina in 1966. It was the fastest aspherical lens in 35 mm photography at the time. The design was already so advanced that no further significant developments followed for 42 years.
The next technical breakthrough came in 2008 with the Noctilux-M 50 f/0.95 ASPH. – a lens that blurs the boundaries of what is possible with its unique bokeh. In 2017, the Noctilux range was expanded to include a 75 mm focal length with the Noctilux-M 75 f/1.25 ASPH. This lens also demonstrates that, even when the world seems to have lost its colour, a Noctilux can still shed light on the finest details.
The next innovation in this tradition follows in 2026 with the Noctilux-M 35 f/1.2 ASPH. This “reportage lens” underscores the innovative power of the Noctilux thanks to its incredible compactness and precision combined with the highest degree of photographic quality, narrative proximity and creative freedom.

Why Bokeh Is More than Just Background
Bokeh describes the quality of the blur, i.e. how smoothly a lens dissolves backgrounds and how harmoniously points of light appear. This effect can only be achieved through the interplay of high lens speed, complex lens construction and precise aperture mechanics. The more refined this transition, the more vividly the subject emerges, seemingly floating in front of a soft, cinematic background. This is precisely why a Noctilux background is so exceptional.
