Discover how to create intentional, engaging street portraits in one of London’s most energetic and character-filled neighbourhoods. This immersive Leica Akademie workshop is designed for those who want to build confidence in approaching subjects, directing poses, and shaping natural light in real-world environments.

Led by Senior Leica Akademie tutor Robin Sinha—whose portrait work has been featured in Portrait of Britain and shortlisted for the Taylor Wessing Portrait Award—the day blends creative insight, technical refinement, and practical street experience. You'll explore how staged portraiture differs from candid work, learn how to keep subjects relaxed and collaborative, and gain tools for producing portraits that are both authentic and visually striking.

Whether you're refining your craft or stepping into street portraiture for the first time, this workshop will deepen your understanding of people, light, and composition—ultimately helping you create portraits that resonate with intention.

Itinerary
 

• Welcome at Leica Akademie Soho and introduction to the day
• A short history of street portraiture
• A guided look at the street portraiture work of Robin Sinha
• Discussion: candid vs. staged portraiture
• Break for lunch
• Techniques for successful street portraits, including approaching subjects, directing poses, managing light, lens choice, exposure, and simple tools like reflectors
• Guided practical shooting session on the streets of Soho
• Group edit and tutor feedback, with advice on developing your portrait practice
   

Who Should Attend:

This workshop is open to all levels of photographer who are keen to grow their skill set.

A Leica Camera is not required for this class. Students must have a basic operational knowledge of their camera, however Leica Akademie Tutors are on hand to offer technical advise at all times.

An assortment of the latest Leica Cameras and lenses will be available on loan at no further cost for the duration of the workshop (please see T&C's).
