Two-Day Immersive Workshop
Saturday 22 – Sunday 23 August 2026
Overview
Set in the heart of Soho, this two-day immersive workshop invites participants to explore the fundamentals of documentary storytelling through a focused photographic project.
Working within a clear narrative framework, each participant will create a short visual story built around three key images:
- A person at work or at play
- A relationship
- An establishing shot
Through a balance of guided tuition, independent shooting, and group critique, the workshop encourages a thoughtful and intuitive approach to photographing people and place.
Day One — Saturday
10:00 – 14:00 (including a short break)
The workshop begins at the Akademie with an introduction to documentary storytelling, informed by both personal practice and key photographic references. A curated slideshow will provide context and inspiration, followed by a walkthrough of the three-image narrative structure and discussion of potential project directions.
Afternoon
Participants will head out into Soho to begin photographing. You may choose your own street, location, or venue, or respond to a series of suggested prompts.
The Akademie space will remain open throughout the afternoon for those who wish to return for guidance, feedback, or time to reflect on their approach.
Day Two — Sunday
10:30 – 13:00
Following a morning recap, participants will continue photographing in Soho or return to the Akademie for one-to-one feedback and guidance as they refine their work.
14:00 – 17:30
The group will reconvene for an extended editing and critique session, reviewing each participant’s images with a focus on sequencing, narrative clarity, and visual coherence.
The day concludes with informal drinks on the terrace, providing a relaxed setting to continue conversations and reflect on the work produced.
