Extraordinary Through Tradition
The APO-Summicron-M 35 f/2 ASPH. represents a resolute take on a focal length that has long defined documentary photography. Owing to its optical performance, this lens distinguishes itself even within the M-Lens range. With its remarkably short close focus distance, outstanding sharpness, distinctive bokeh effect and impressive lens speed, this example of German craftsmanship opens up the widest creative potential. Here, every detail is clear, every tone nuance distinct, every texture vibrant – unembellished, yet delivered with a clarity that resonates.
A closer look.
The APO-Summicron-M 35 f/2 ASPH. quite literally goes one step further, by facilitating true close-up shots. Its minimum focusing distance of just 30 centimeters surpasses all previous M lenses. A floating lens element ensures exceptional rendition quality across the entire image at all distance settings.
The focus ring has a particularly large rotational throw of 300°, giving ample range for extremely precise focusing even throughout the extended close-focus range. In conjunction with its high light sensitivity, the APO-Summicron-M 35 f/2 ASPH. takes compositional creativity to the next level. An exceptional lens for those once-in-a-lifetime Leica moments.
The Strengths of the 35 mm Leica M-Lens
Thanks to apochromatic correction, the APO-Summicron-M 35 f/2 ASPH. achieves exceptional sharpness and imaging quality even with an open aperture, remaining free from colour aberrations, even at high-contrast edges or under backlighting. The close focus distance of merely 30 centimetres greatly expands creative possibilities, particularly for expressive portraits or finely detailed urban scenes. The f/2 lens speed enables natural separation and delivers a gentle yet well-defined bokeh effect. High-precision focusing ensures the creative scope of this focal length can be explored with exceptional attention to detail.
Design of the APO-Summicron-M 35 f/2 ASPH.
This piece of equipment features ten lenses arranged in five groups. These include four aspherical surfaces and multiple elements composed of special glass featuring anomalous partial dispersion. A floating element maintains consistently high image quality throughout the full focal range. The close focus distance of just 0.3 metres marks a first for M-Lenses in this category. Crafted in Wetzlar, Germany, the lens is produced to the most exacting standards. The outcome is a meticulously crafted lens that sets standards and remains reliable for decades.
