The Strengths of the 21 mm SL-Lens
When working with extremely wide angles of view, this lens allows you to keep complete control over lines and perspective. Even complex architectural structures are reproduced with precision. True to Leica’s APO lens pedigree, the Super-APO-Summicron-SL 21 f/2 ASPH. delivers exceptional contrast even in difficult lighting conditions, opening up space for creativity through precise control of focus and bokeh. Natural skin tones, smooth gradients and corner-to-corner sharpness are a matter of course with Leica APO lenses. Brilliant, detailed images can be created with the SL cameras’ high-resolution sensors, which are impressive even in large-format prints.
Design Details
Fourteen carefully engineered lens, three of which have aspherical surfaces, arranged in eleven groups, provide the highest degree of image quality, even at the widest aperture setting. Its apochromatic correction is unique among super wide-angle lenses, making it the world’s first 21 mm APO lens for full-frame cameras. For perfect correction of chromatic aberration, most of the incorporated lens elements feature anomalous partial dispersion and are made of specialised glass elements, crafted with cutting-edge manufacturing techniques and sophisticated workmanship. The close focus distance is only 21 cm, enabling striking composition of foreground elements. The quiet, accurate autofocus allows the focus to be set precisely for architectural and landscape shots. The aluminium housing is made for demanding outdoor use as it is sealed against dust and splash water.
