Roaming through the City at Night
"I like to roam through the city with my camera at night."
Whether lights, shadows or dark alleys - cities develop a very special atmosphere at night. People are on their way home or just drifting into the night. I love to be outside at that time. Music in my ear almost make me feel like I'm in a movie. Every image becomes a movie scene in my mind's eye.
A look inside my back
Besides the Leica, my Airpods are definitely a must. I usually also have a small sample of perfume with me, because scent and music inspire me the most. And then - depending on the weather - hand cream and sunglasses.
The story behind the picture
Moon lives in Seoul and asked me via Instagram if I would like to take some portraits of her. We were walking around her neighborhood in the evening for a while until we arrived at this underpass. I found the colors and contrast between her and the structure incredibly interesting, the bend of the tunnel combined with Moon's movement gives it certain dynamics that makes it a favorite image for me.
My style
I deliberately wander the streets at night and alone with the Leica. I like to be inspired by my surroundings. For me, it's an incentive to create something completely new in an already familiar spot. In general, I love to walk off in strange cities and just see what happens.
My camera
I can take the Q3 with me on any assignment without having to worry about it. The autofocus is spot on, the compactness of the camera is an incredible advantage, the new tiltable display makes me even more flexible, and the combination of sensor and the 1.7/28mm lens is almost unbeatable anyway.
My Leica feeling
The simple black design inspired me to move like a shadow through the night and capture the lights of the city. Whether lights, shadows or dark alleys - cities develop a very special atmosphere at night.
