Masterclass Storytelling with Dominic Nahr

This masterclass in Vienna is an intensive, practical deep dive into the art of visual storytelling.

The workshop begins on Friday with a personal meet and greet. In a relaxed atmosphere, Dominic Nahr provides insight into his working methods and his approach to visual storytelling, creating space for discussion and initial questions.
Saturday is all about input and photographic practice: together, we will work, observe, research and photograph in the urban space of Vienna. On Sunday, the work will continue before the resulting stories are reviewed, selected, edited and processed together.

The masterclass focuses on simple, clearly implementable story ideas in urban spaces. The aim is not to create a single powerful image, but to tell a story in a precise and comprehensible way. The starting point is a fixed structure according to which Dominic Nahr develops his visual stories. This is based on five central elements, which are conveyed using current works – created under a wide variety of conditions, but always following the same narrative logic.

The focus is on understanding this structure, applying it in a targeted manner and consciously practising it. Building on this, the aim is to translate the method step by step into your own visual signature.

In a joint discussion round, concrete story ideas are developed and assigned to the participants. They then set about creating their stories.
