M-System
The iconic Leica M-Camera uses state-of-the-art technology, focusing only on the features essential for photography.
Photographers are empowered to capture the very essence of a moment, unburdened by technological distractions. Its manual controls and iconic design encourage deep creative engagement. The resulting images reflect the photographer’s soul, making it a tool for true artistic expression.
The rangefinder: The heart of the Leica M
The rangefinder in every Leica M-Camera displays a bright, high-contrast image that extends beyond the final field of view and allows photographers to have full control over focus, exposure time and aperture. Bright line frames for six focal lengths (28/90 mm, 35/135 mm, 50/75 mm) are automatically shown in the M-Camera’s viewfinder when the corresponding lens is mounted. Focussing is quick and precise with the superimposed or split image method. Both are ideal for manual focussing with extreme precision, even in low light. With the manual image field selector, a preview of all of the bright line frames can be displayed, ensuring that the motif is photographed with the ideal focal length in every picture. The mechanical rangefinder in every M-Camera is made by hand at the Leica factory in Germany using over 100 parts with the tightest tolerances and finetuned to each M-Camera.
Lightness
The Leica M-Camera is one of the most compact full-frame cameras in the world. The M-Lenses are also particularly small and compact, enabling groundbreaking images in travel and reportage photography.
