An exhibition by Henrike Stahl
The Leica gallery is presenting an exhibition by Henrike Stahl, whose photographs and poetic interventions in the image were produced during her residency at Château Palmer in 2023.
A German photographer based in France, Henrike Stahl uses hybrid practices to highlight the thousand possibilities of reality and establish a dialogue between worlds. For her, plurality is a guarantee of richness, and she likes to crumple, cut and experiment with paper without manipulating reality.
Capturing everything that falls outside the frame and tracing its discreet furrow: peripheral characters, intermediate states, the delicacy of the margins. Over the months at Château Palmer, she has captured the work of the winegrowers with a complicit sensitivity, observing the transmissions, experimenting literally immersing her prints in the earth to give birth to gentle, poetic visions.
"At Château Palmer, I naturally met young people from the Grand Parc district of Bordeaux who had been trained to work in the vineyards. I photographed them and observed the techniques they were using. One of the first things that struck me when I arrived here was the sheer number of beginners trying their hand at working the land, supervised by more experienced winegrowers. I quickly realised the extent to which transmission was part of a more global philosophy: at Palmer, they don't just make wine, they help people to grow. They give young people a chance and believe in learning. The young people here are buds. My role is to photograph these buds as they blossom."
The arch will be among the clouds marks the second edition of the INSTANTS residency, an artistic adventure devised by Château Palmer and Leica.
