Yuto Yamada’s photographs tell the story of an intense photographic journey through Japan’s changing seasons, and of a rediscovery of a culture that only truly came close to him through distance.
With a strong graphic sensibility, Yuto Yamada creates poetic landscape compositions that cast the beauty of his homeland in a new light. Over the course of six years, he traveled across Japan, on foot, by ferry, through heat, snow, and darkness, with the clear goal of capturing the essence of his country in all its diversity through photography.
The resulting works are not only an expression of deep cultural connection, but also of exceptional design precision. The exhibition of the series “Japanism” offers insight into Yamada’s personal view of Japan: quiet, permeated by light and structure, composed in a visual language that oscillates between contemplative calm and graphic rigor.
About the Artist
Yuto Yamada, born in Tokyo, studied graphic design and initially worked in the advertising industry in Japan and New York. After returning to Japan, he became a freelance designer before moving to Berlin in 2013, a relocation that ignited his passion for photography and significantly shaped his artistic development as a photographer.
Since then, he has devoted himself to photography with a distinctive visual signature that masterfully combines design, color, and composition. Alongside his artistic projects, he produces international campaigns and corporate commissions. His work has been widely published and exhibited; his photo books “Silent World” and “JAPANISM” are regarded as visual love letters to a rediscovered homeland.
