Endless opportunities

With the Super-Vario-Elmar-SL 16–35 f/3.5–4.5 ASPH, the Vario-Elmarit-SL 24–90 f/2.8–4 ASPH., and the APO-Vario-Elmarit-SL 90–280 f/2.8–4 ASPH., the SL portfolio of zoom lenses covers a range of focal lengths from 16 to 280 mm. Thus the three zoom lenses offer a spectrum of focal lengths that fulfill the needs of all typical genres of photography.

Fast and sharp when it matters

Together with the typical Leica, i.e. exceptional, imaging performance at all distances and apertures , the high-performance lens offers simultaneously fast and almost silent autofocus. For this, only one very light element is moved for focusing. A specially developed drive concept comprising a stepping motor and linear positioning enables very fast, almost-silent, and precise focusing without changing the overall length of the lens.

Reliable under all conditions

As is the case with all other components of the SL-System, the Super-Vario-Elmar-SL 16–35 f/3.5–4.5 ASPH. is designed and constructed to meet the special demands of professional photography. Made in Germany, the robust construction of this lens and its AquaDura® lens coating make it ideal for use in even the most unfavorable conditions. Improved mount geometry and high-quality coating ensure optimum suppression of reflections and stray light within the optical system.

ason Peterson began shooting analogue film photography in high school but remained averse to digital photography until a friend introduced him to Instagram.

His style is now instantly recognisable: black and white, heavy contrast, large scale and always on point in terms of composition and light. Inviting us to follow him into the dark, Jason explores the darkness of monochrome photography. The series was shot by Jason on the Leica SL with the wide-angle Super-Vario-Elmar-SL 16–35 f/3.5–4.5 ASPH.Taking to the skies above his adopted hometown of Chicago, the 16-35mm addition to the Leica SL lens portfolio was the perfect piece of gear for capturing these broader horizons.
