Leica Rangemaster CRF R – new design at the leading edge of optics and laser rangefinding
The new Leica Rangemaster CRF R compact rangefinder, with all its functions significantly improved, is setting new milestones. The “C” in the name of the Leica’s measuring mite stands for “compact”, of course, and the small, easy-grip housing contains excellent optics and high-precision rangefinding. It’s the latest addition to the large Leica family of long-range optics, which includes riflescopes, thermal cameras, binoculars, and spotting scopes, and Leica engineers are calling it “the best-ever entry model” among compact laser rangefinders.
Leica long-range precision optics – prerequisite for an ethical shot!
Wetzlar, Germany. January 11, 2024. Leica Sport Optics proudly presents a newly-designed laser rangefinder: the Leica Rangemaster CRF R. This is already the 3rd generation of Leica monocular rangefinders. The first, Leica’s LRF 800, was developed in the 1990s. The second generation, Leica’s CRF 1200 launched in 2006, inspired many later models – from other brands, as well.
The new model combines highly precise laser technology and ideal optical performance.
Benefits at a glance:
- highest optical performance
- highly precise laser technology
- focused on the essentials
- easy and rapid handling
- perfectly designed housing
When every second counts, the Leica Rangemaster CRF R reveals its talents. Perfectly positioned, easy-grip controls and intuitive user guidance enable a quick and reliable aim. Light travels at approximately 300,000 kilometers per second. The Leica CRF Rangemaster measures the interval between the emission of the laser beam and the arrival of its reflection. In less than 0.3 seconds, the rangefinder’s computer displays the exact distance to the target. Measurement accuracy is +/- 0.5 meters at distances between 10 and 200 meters – ideal for bow hunters who require maximum precision at shorter ranges. The maximum range of the CRF R is 1800 meters.
When every gram counts, the Leica Rangemaster CRF R is also the perfect companion, because the device is so small and light. Stowed in a trouser pocket or jacket, it’s ideal even for strenuous expeditions. A lightweight Cordura pouch is included for belt attachment, making quick access easy.
The Leica Rangemaster CRF R – SIMPLY PERFECT
The new Leica Rangefinder CRF R boasts high quality and ease of use. This device is ideal for beginners in laser rangefinding as well as for the “old hands” who prefer to focus on the essentials. The clear, purist operating concept with two easy-grip buttons – each with a few, logical functions – does not require long study of the operating manual. Intuitively, hunters can start measuring immediately after unpacking the device. They can choose to display the actual measured range or the equivalent horizontal range (EHR). With EHR, the deviation of the point of impact is included in the calculation for angle shots. The Leica Rangemaster CRF R makes the calculation according to the old hunter's rule "uphill and downhill, always under", but accurately and reliably. This lets hunters use the trajectory data as for straight shots. Thanks to the one-hand concept, aiming and measuring are one motion. This saves valuable time when the hunting situation threatens to change. Game can also be reliably identified with the Leica Rangemaster CRF R, as the optical quality is excellent. Massive reduction of stray light and reflections produces a crystal-clear image with finest details. Together with absolutely realistic colors, the optical performance of the Leica Rangemaster CRF R is best in class. Particularly pleasing: Despite higher performance, this model is priced below its predecessor.
“The Leica CRF R is the best introduction to rangefinding – or for any hunter who prefers a simple device focused on the essentials. A high-performance optical system unites with a reliable rangefinder that automatically compensates for angle shots. The equivalent horizontal range is displayed, which can be used to calculate the point of impact,” says Matthias Raff, Leica Product Manager.
Bright, crystal-clear optics for best observation
The Leica Rangemaster CRF has excellent optics – thanks to first-class workmanship, outstanding materials, and extremely efficient reduction of stray light and reflections. Specially-coated prism surfaces play a role in this. By delivering rich detail, sharpness, contrast, and color fidelity, the optics guarantee unique observation moments and reliable identification of game. Hunters benefit from the extraordinarily wide field of view. It’s a pocket rangefinder with the quality of binoculars.
- best-in-class optics
- outstanding color fidelity
- specially-coated prisms
- enhanced reduction of stray light and reflections
Precise & speedy laser for exact rangefinding
Leica Sport Optics has been developing and manufacturing high-quality optoelectronic devices for over 30 years. The name “Geovid” has become a byword for binoculars with laser rangefinder. The small handheld rangefinders are in no way inferior to the larger devices in terms of technology and precision – they are simply monocular. In rangefinding, the laser beam’s travel is timed, either as an individual measurement or continuously (scanning mode). The measurement result is displayed within a fraction of a second. Leica’s vast experience ensures accuracy and reliable operation even in very difficult conditions, such as rainy weather.
- high range
- fast, very accurate measurement result
- individual measurements and scanning mode
- reliable in difficult conditions
Equivalent horizontal range for reliable angle shots
The Leica Rangemaster CRF R displays the actual measured range or the equivalent horizontal range (EHR): everything hunters need for a reliable and ethical angle shot.
Special housing & buttons for quick and easy operation
The new housing is compact, grippy, and very easy to handle. For example, the battery compartment can be opened easily, without tools. Rubber elements at top and bottom give the well-balanced housing a secure grip. The handy housing is made of lightweight and durable polycarbonate ABS plastic in black. Only a few functions are assigned to each of the two control buttons. It can be grasped and immediately put to use, thanks to one-hand operation.
Special feature of the CRF models:
The easy-to-read LED display that’s bright and clear under all conditions and automatically adjusts to ambient light.
- perfectly balanced, slim design
- easy-grip rubber inserts and control buttons
- very low weight
- intuitive, easy operation
Target group & sales launch
The sales launch for the new Leica Rangemaster CRF R is scheduled for January 11, 2024. The retail price is 550 EUR (Europe) and 399 USD (USA) for the CRF R. This model is thus less expensive than its predecessor. Two neoprene bags and the CRF tripod adapter are offered as accessories.
