Che cosa rende un'immagine capace di restare nel tempo?
Alcune fotografie sembrano superare il tempo, la cultura e il luogo in cui sono state realizzate. Non raccontano soltanto ciò che abbiamo visto, ma qualcosa che abbiamo sentito.

In questo workshop di tre giorni a Trieste, Alexander Bronfer accompagnerà i partecipanti in una riflessione sul significato della bellezza in fotografia e sul modo in cui uno sguardo personale possa trasformarsi in un'esperienza condivisa.

Attraverso sessioni teoriche, momenti di confronto e uscite fotografiche, esploreremo il rapporto tra percezione, composizione e linguaggio visivo, affinando la capacità di riconoscere ciò che rende un'immagine capace di entrare in relazione con gli altri.

Trieste, città di confine e di incontri, diventerà il terreno ideale per osservare, interrogarsi e fotografare.

ATTREZZATURA E COSA PORTARE

Per tutta la durata del workshop, ogni partecipante avrà a disposizione una Leica M11 con Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH.

Si richiede di portare:
Una scheda di memoria SD (obbligatoria)
Un computer portatile o un tablet per le sessioni di revisione ed editing delle immagini.

ALEXANDER BRONFER
Alexander Bronfer è un fotografo israeliano nato in Ucraina e formatosi a San Pietroburgo, in Russia. Dopo un periodo vissuto in Lituania, si è trasferito in Israele, stabilendosi in un kibbutz nel sud del Paese, dove ha sviluppato un profondo legame con la regione del Mar Morto e con il paesaggio desertico.

Il suo lavoro si colloca al confine tra fotografia documentaria e fotografia d’autore: più che registrare ciò che vede, Bronfer cerca di restituire la propria risposta emotiva e sensoriale ai luoghi e alle situazioni che fotografa. Attualmente la sua ricerca è incentrata sulle questioni ambientali e sul rapporto tra l’uomo e la natura.

La sua prima monografia, Under Sodom Mountain (2024), documenta la crisi ecologica del Mar Morto ed è il risultato di otto anni di lavoro continuativo sul territorio. È stato finalista in numerosi festival fotografici internazionali e israeliani e il suo lavoro è stato esposto in tutto il mondo.

What makes an image beautiful? What makes it art rather than simply a record of what we see?

In this three-day workshop, we will explore photography through practice, discussion, and shooting in the unique atmosphere of Trieste. Drawing from ideas and examples from art history, philosophy, psychology, and anthropology, we will examine how people perceive beauty and why certain images resonate across cultures and time.

Trieste is an ideal place for this exploration. For centuries, it has been a meeting point of cultures, languages, and ideas. Its streets, cafés, seafront, and layered history offer a rich environment for observation and photographic discovery. Hosted at Spazio TRART, the workshop unfolds across its historic spaces — a fitting backdrop for the questions we will ask together.

Alongside these discussions, we will cover practical aspects of photography, including Leica M workflow, camera setup, composition, light, and visual language. Daily shooting sessions will be followed by image reviews and group discussions.

The goal of the workshop is not only to improve technical skills, but also to develop a deeper understanding of seeing — and to create photographs that transform personal perception into a shared visual experience.

Each participant will be provided with a Leica M11 and a Summilux-M 35mm f/1.4 ASPH for the duration of the workshop.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Alexander Bronfer is an Israeli photographer born in Ukraine and trained in Saint Petersburg, Russia. After living in Lithuania, he moved to Israel — settling in a kibbutz in the south of the country — where he developed a deep connection to the Dead Sea region and the desert landscape.

His work sits at the intersection of documentary and fine-art photography: rather than simply recording what he sees, Alexander captures his emotional and sensory response to a scene. His current focus is on environmental issues and humanity's relationship with nature.

His debut monograph Under Sodom Mountain (2024) documents the ecological crisis of the Dead Sea — the result of eight years of sustained work in the region. He has been a finalist at several international and Israeli photography festivals, and his work has been exhibited worldwide.
