Form Follows Adrenaline

The character of this special edition is defined by two materials from the world of motorsport. The hand grip, thumb rest and shutter release feature handcrafted carbon-fibre elements. The Microvelour trim on the camera body provides the kind of grip that drivers get on the steering wheel. The two red accents on the soft-release button and function button were also inspired by this, and are visible even out of the corner of the eye.

We spoke to Andreas Voll, CEO of Leica Camera, about the collaboration between Leica and Formula 1®, as well as what makes this special edition so unique.

What do you think makes the licensing partnership between Leica and Formula 1® particularly fitting?
Precision, speed and emotion figure particularly prominently in Formula 1®. It thrives on unique moments that can never be repeated. This makes the sport especially interesting for Leica, as our cameras capture precisely these moments. It was important to us that the partnership felt authentic and genuinely connected with our brand.

Why was the Leica Q3 43 chosen as the prefect product for this collaboration?
The Leica Q3 43 was an obvious choice for us. It combines many qualities that our customers value in Leica products, such as outstanding image quality, a compact design, intuitive operation and a timeless aesthetic. Together with select accessories, it creates a harmonious overall package, ideal for those looking for a high-performance camera that they will gladly carry around in everyday life, while travelling and during special moments.

What are the key features of the Leica Q3 43 Formula 1® Edition?
The technical foundation is the Leica Q3 43 full-frame camera. For the Formula 1® Edition, our teams collaborated closely with Formula 1® to emphasise the link to motorsport while preserving the camera’s character. This has been achieved through a distinctive design and materials inspired by the world of motorsport as well as matching accessories. It was important to us that the result remained clearly recognisable as a Leica while telling the story of our collaboration elegantly and subtly.

Who did you have in mind when developing this special edition?
Our aim was to bring together two passionate communities. This edition is aimed at photographers, Formula 1® fans and collectors who appreciate exceptional craftsmanship, timeless design and iconic collaborations.
