This exhibition is the first fully monochrome experience in Leica Gallery Mexico City, comprising a selection of work distinguished with internationally recognized awards in the global photographic scene.

Alejandro Cegarra (Caracas, 1989) presents a selection of his project The Two Walls. This series was recently awarded the prestigious World Press Photo award in the long-term projects category. The images that Cegarra captures of the migratory phenomenon on the border of Mexico and the United States show us the reality that thousands of people live while looking to improve their lives. Cegarra's gaze denotes respect for the dignity of migrants and portrays moments that make evident the weight that political ideologies press against the migrant bodies. Alejandro won the winner of the Oscar Barnack award in 2014, in the Newcomer category. He has since created work with Leica cameras.

César Rodríguez (Tepic, 1983) presents a selection of his project Montaña Roja, a series that resulted in a photobook edited by KWY Ediciones. The book was a finalist in the annual First Photobook Award organized by Paris Photo and Aperture Foundation in 2022. Montaña Roja firmly plants itself as a timely visual statement, thanks to the relevance of its theme, the quality of its images, and Rodríguez's careful sequencing. This is complemented by the publication's precious editorial design. Rodríguez's practice includes the creation of moving images (He has directed our short films), his cinematic vision informing his still imagery. His photographs have a narrative dimension charged with a deep sentimental and psychological impact.

These projects give visibility to distinct aspects of Latin American life, constantly affected by social phenomena such as migration and its counterweight, the resistance of communities to economic and ideological policies. Both series reflect the aesthetic explorations and ethical preoccupations of both Alejandro and César. Life in Latin America depends on a single conundrum: to stay at home or to leave it, with all the risks and possibilities that this decision involves. Their work, viewed as a whole, presents multiple instances that surround this crucial Latin-American question.

The vernissage will be held on June 7, 2024, at 4 PM, at Leica Gallery Mexico City, located in Avenida Presidente Masaryk 422B, Colonia Polanco, CDMX.
