MOKEN avant que la mer n'oublie
An exhibition by Laurent Parienti

Discover Laurent Parienti’s exhibition, "MOKEN avant que la mer n'oublie", on view from April 9 to August 31, 2026, at the Leica Store Marseille. Through his lens, the artist takes us on a journey between the Mergui Archipelago and the Surin Islands to meet the Moken, a nomadic sea-faring people living between Burma and Thailand. His images reveal the beauty of a fragile world, shaped by rituals, the sea, and an ancestral balance that is now under threat.

About Laurent Parienti

Based in a Mediterranean cove, Laurent Parienti draws from this wild environment the energy that fuels a body of work focused on nomadism, the sea, and the sacred. His photography, conceived as an act of presence, seeks to reveal the soul of a place and those fleeting moments when the visible offers a glimpse of the invisible.

For several years, he has accompanied ethnologists among the Moken, a nomadic seafaring people living between Burma and Thailand. His work is part of a committed effort to preserve the visual memory of a culture in transition, through a deep and respectful connection rather than a documentary approach.
