I've been taking photos since I was a teenager, starting with analog and black-and-white film.

Since then, photography has never let go of me and has always accompanied me, intensively, through my life. Over time, I have learned that I can only take strong photos if I photograph what truly inspires me. This passion led me to concert photography, but since the pandemic, street photography has taken centre stage.

When I'm taking photos, I can find rest within myself and detach completely from my surroundings. Photography, therefore, has a strong contemplative element for me. In my forays, I perceive not only superficial situations but also the things and stories behind them. Motifs and scenes jump out at me because I don't just see them; I consciously perceive them. I have developed a sense of pressing the shutter release at the right moment. Good timing is not only an important prerequisite for street photography but for all photography.

Photography not only teaches us to see but also to consciously perceive. Photography is like seeing, only more vivid.

Every summer, classic car meetings are held several times at the regional airfield in Mönchengladbach, Germany. I took this photo at one such event. As I strolled among countless old cars, motorbikes, their owners, and visitors, this old Saab and its proud owner caught my eye. I immediately noticed that he had dressed in a colour that matched his vintage car. The other accessories inside the vehicle, and even in the boot, were all lovingly colour-coordinated. I could see right away that a harmonious scene was unfolding before my eyes. I just had to wait for the right moment.

That moment came when the owner leaned into the boot and tried to dig something out of the turquoise antique suitcase. All the elements of the photo came together at this moment: the car with its unusual paintwork, the owner dressed in matching colours, and the nostalgic suitcase. I couldn't help but take a step or two closer and press the shutter button on my Leica Q-P.

As I grew weary of lugging around bulky photographic gear, I sought a compact "always-on" camera as a secondary option. Having been drawn to Leica for some time, I opted to purchase a Q-P a few years back. My enthusiasm was such that I eventually sold all my other equipment to fully transition to the Leica Q3—a decision I've never regretted.

With the Leica Q3, I can seamlessly navigate streets unnoticed or capture intimate moments on stage and the vibrant atmosphere of the audience up close.

A Leica changes something in you. I can't quite articulate it, but it positively influences how you capture photos.
