Leica Q3
The Leica Q3 impresses with its unique design and versatile Leica Summilux 28 mm lens, which features an integrated macro mode and one of the fastest optical image stabilisers on the market. Thanks to the full-frame sensor’s Triple Resolution Technology, you can choose between 60, 36 or 18 megapixels as required. All cameras in the Q3 range are intuitive to use thanks to the simple Leica user interface, which can be tailored precisely to your needs. This straightforward operating concept is also evident in the Leica FOTOS App, which enables quick and convenient connection of the camera via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi for image transfer and sharing on your smartphone.

What is the Leica Q?
What is the practical difference between the Q with a 28 mm lens and the Q with a 43 mm lens?
With a 65-degree view angle, the 28 mm perspective of the Leica Q3 shows you more of your surroundings. This focal length is extremely versatile. It is particularly well-suited to landscape, travel and street photography, as well as indoor shots. In contrast, the 43 mm perspective of the Leica Q3 43 offers a narrower 45-degree view angle and comes closest to human vision. Because of this, it works especially well for portraits and other subjects requiring a balanced rendering. It is important to note that the focal length does not alter the perspective; to achieve the same framing with a 28 mm lens, you will need to move closer to the subject. Consequently, nearby objects appear larger in relation to the background, whereas the 43 mm perspective often renders spatial relationships more naturally.
Does the Leica Q have autofocus?
Yes. Leica Q-Cameras feature a powerful hybrid autofocus system with intelligent subject recognition. This ensures that the camera brings your subject into focus quickly and with pinpoint accuracy. To switch to manual focusing, simply turn the focus ring on the lens. To assist you when using manual focus, focus peaking highlights the in-focus area in colour and the viewfinder image is automatically magnified when the focus is perfectly set.
What is the difference between the Leica Q and the Leica M?
The Leica Q and the Leica M embody two distinct approaches to photography. The Leica Q’s fixed lens makes it a compact unit that offers fast autofocus. This makes it ideal for those who want to take photographs in a straightforward and flexible way with just one setup. The Leica M, on the other hand, is a camera system with either a rangefinder or an electronic viewfinder. The key difference lies in the interchangeable lenses. With their exceptional quality and variety, Leica M-Lenses provide maximum control over focal length and image composition. The Leica M encourages a more mindful and unhurried approach, while the Leica Q provides a particularly direct and straightforward introduction to full-frame photography.
Can I use the Leica Q3 for macro photography?
Yes. One of the standout features of Leica Q-Cameras is the integrated macro mode featured in every model. This allows you to take photographs from very close up. The macro mode can be easily activated via the lens ring. With Leica Q3 models featuring a 28 mm lens, you can photograph subjects at full resolution from just 17 cm away; with the Leica Q3 43, the close focus distance is 30 cm. This enables you to reveal hidden details and textures in subjects such as plants, faces, food and insects with impressive resolution.
Is the Leica Q weather-sealed?
Yes. In accordance with the IP52 standard, all Leica Q-Cameras are protected against dust and splashes. This means that you can use the camera in unsettled weather. However, the camera is not protected against use underwater or in heavy, persistent rain.
Can I record videos with the Leica Q?
Yes. The Leica Q3 camera features powerful video capabilities. You can record videos with a resolution of up to 8K, easily meeting professional standards. Various video formats and codecs are available depending on the settings, including H.265 and ProRes 422 HQ. You can also record at up to 60 frames per second in Full HD. Furthermore, you can connect gimbals, compatible microphones (e.g., RØDE), power banks and external display recorders to the camera via the USB-C and HDMI ports.
Can I crop images using the Leica Q?
Yes. Thanks to their high-resolution sensors, Leica Q-Cameras enable you to determine the framing even after pictures have been taken. For instance, you can crop a photo more tightly at a later stage with no visible loss of image quality. You can also select digital frames for JPG images directly in the camera. The Leica Q3 offers digital frames for focal lengths ranging from 28 to 90 mm. The Leica Q3 43 offers digital frames for focal lengths ranging from 43 to 150 mm.
