The Art Behind Leica Watches
Leica Watch production

A look behind the scenes of the Leica watch collections provides insight into the defining characteristics of these high-quality models, including the price, the fine mechanics, and the precise craftsmanship of watchmaking.

Who produces the Leica watches?

The Leica ZM 1 and ZM 2 watch collections embody simplicity and timeless elegance. The design of this luxurious collection bears the unmistakable signature of German product designer Prof. Achim Heine, who created unconventional solutions for traditional timekeeping functions. These high-grade timepieces, including their movements, are “Made in Germany” from concept to production. The movements and components are manufactured by “Lehmann Präzision” using exclusive production methods.

The Leica ZM 11 and ZM 12 are likewise expressions of exceptional engineering. Both collections are powered by the distinctive Leica LA-3001 movement, developed in collaboration with Chronode, a Swiss company renowned for developing and producing high-end mechanical movements. Together with Leica, it has combined elegance and precision in the unmistakable designs of the ZM 11 and ZM 12.

What special features do the Leica ZM 1 and ZM 2 offer?

The Leica ZM 1 and ZM 2 represent a new expression of refinement. Their design is defined by a domed sapphire crystal and finely bead-blasted surfaces, refined through brushed and polished details. The case features a fully integrated exhibition back, while the unique, patented push-crown is inspired by the shutter release of Leica cameras.

The status indicator of the movement, the unique power reserve display, the day/night indicator, and the additional functions of the models all rely on custom-built mechanisms: the manually wound LH-10 (ZM 1) and LH-20 (ZM 2) calibres. These movements combine engineering and craftsmanship with outstanding design and luxurious detail.

Are the Leica ZM 1 and ZM 2 available in different editions?

In addition to the classic black/silver models, both watches are available in the Monochrom Edition, the Urban Green Edition, and the exclusive Gold Limited Edition.

The Leica ZM Monochrom, presented in deep black, mirrors the iconic aesthetics of the Monochrom cameras. The Leica Urban Green Edition features a unique fumé noir dial with a rich dégradé from green to black. In combination with the new Milanese stainless-steel bracelet, it beautifully reflects the harmony between nature and urban life.

The Leica ZM Gold Limited Edition is a tribute to Leica’s legacy of pioneering craftsmanship. Limited to 50 pieces, the ZM Gold Limited Edition unites two prestigious metals, gold and titanium, in an exclusive masterpiece. Building on the success of the Leica ZM watch collections, this edition embodies the unwavering commitment of Leica to iconic design and exceptional watchmaking, enriched with a touch of luxury.
