“Reading Time – Photographs and Moving Images“ by Donata Wenders
The Leica Gallery Munich presents the exhibition “Reading Time – Photographs and Moving Images“ by Donata Wenders.

The exhibition spans a range from atmospheric street photography to painterly studies of movement. With great attentiveness, Donata Wenders captures the seemingly inconspicuous, offering a quiet and personal perspective on people and places. The photographs are complemented by video installations in which movement, time, and stillness intertwine.

A particular focus is the series “KOMOREBI DREAMS“ (2022), created during the filming of Wim Wenders’ movie “Perfect Days“ in Tokyo. In this body of work, Donata Wenders observes the phenomenon known in Japanese as komorebi- the play of sunlight filtering through leaves, creating a vibrant interplay of light and shadow.

The images provide insight into her artistic exploration of fleeting moments of light while also reflecting the attentiveness to everyday life that characterizes the film’s protagonist.

Born in Berlin in 1965, Donata Wenders began her artistic career as a cinematographer for feature films and documentaries and has worked as an independent photographer since 1995. Her work is renowned for its classical visual language, predominantly in black and white. Since 2015, she has expanded her practice to include audiovisual short-film installations that reflect her cinematic roots.
