It is especially meaningful to inaugurate Leica Gallery Shanghai Westbund Central with Marc Riboud’s exhibition Memories of China . Captured with the eye of an empath, the photographer’s images reflect his sincere interest in people’s living situations. Following an initial visit in 1957, Marc Riboud took numerous trips to China, exploring both the big cities and the rural areas. It is not the sensational imagery as much as Riboud’s humanistic interest in his fellow human beings, that sets his work apart and makes it a unique and fascinating kaleidoscope of the constant changes in the world. His pictures thrive on the perfect symbiosis of photojournalistic interest and visually sensitive composition.
