Share Straight Away with the FOTOS App

The D-Lux 8 can connect to the Leica FOTOS App via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. This makes it easy to transfer your photos and videos to your smartphone, edit them and share them straight away. In the app, you can apply Leica Looks presets to JPG images to customise their style. You can also use the remote function to control the camera from a distance and adjust the settings directly via your smartphone.

What is the Leica D-Lux?

What are the key features of the D-Lux 8?

The fast zoom lens and large sensor with an effective resolution of 17 megapixels ensure outstanding image quality. The D-Lux 8’s Four Thirds sensor is almost twice the size of those found in modern smartphones. Consequently, it captures much more light – and therefore more image information – through the lens.

The D-Lux 8 allows you to shoot in both RAW (DNG) and JPG format. DNG RAW images contain a great deal of information and can be edited as desired later on. The D-Lux 8 features an optical image stabilizer to help prevent camera shake. Thanks to its bright OLED viewfinder and touchscreen with Live View function, taking photos with the D-Lux 8 is particularly convenient.

The package also includes a clip-on flash to expand your creative possibilities with this compact camera. For example, you can capture expressive shots with the distinctive look of flash photography when taking photos at events or in particularly low light.

Does the D-Lux 8 have a zoom?
Yes. The D-Lux 8 features an optical zoom. This means that the fixed lens has a focal length range of 24–75 mm (equivalent to 35 mm format). This enables you to capture stunning photographs, whether you’re shooting wide-angle landscapes at 24 mm or portraits at 75 mm. The 24–75 mm range gives you enormous freedom when composing photos and videos. Even at high zoom levels, the optical image stabilisation helps reduce the risk of blurred images caused by camera shake.

Is the D-Lux 8 weather-sealed?
Unlike the Leica Q-Cameras, for example, the D-Lux 8 does not feature weather sealing. In practice, however, brief, light drizzle poses no threat to the D-Lux 8. In heavy rain, very dusty environments or conditions involving splashing water, additional protection is required to prevent dust or water from entering the camera.

Can I record videos with the D-Lux 8?
Yes, the D-Lux 8 enables you to record videos at a resolution of up to 4K at 30 frames per second. In Full HD mode, you can record at up to 60 frames per second. You can then transfer the videos to your smartphone via the Leica FOTOS App or USB-C.

What is the difference between a compact camera and a system camera?
The D-Lux 8 is a compact camera with a fixed lens. This makes it small and straightforward to use straight away. System cameras have interchangeable lenses and usually have a larger sensor. This offers more flexibility, for example in the form of powerful telephoto lenses or particularly fast prime lenses. Together with the larger sensors, these deliver even better image quality in low light. However, these systems are generally larger, heavier and more expensive.
