“Echoes of the Past. Gisèle Freund Reflected in Contemporary Photography.”
The Leica Gallery Frankfurt presents the exhibition “Echoes of the Past. Gisèle Freund Reflected in Contemporary Photography.”

The Leica Gallery Frankfurt presents the group exhibition "Echoes of the Past. Gisèle Freund Reflected in Contemporary Photography.” The exhibition offers both a journey through the history of photography and a range of contemporary perspectives. It takes as its starting point the work of the Jewish photographer Gisèle Freund and highlights three contemporary photographers who respond to Freund’s work, draw inspiration from it, and engage with themes she explored: Jessica Backhaus, Kristin Bethge, and Andrea Hoyer. Together, they enter into a dialogue with the renowned 20th-century photographer for the first time within a shared exhibition space of resonance.

Running concurrently with the major retrospective at the Jewish Museum Frankfurt, with which the exhibition was developed in cooperation, the Leica Gallery Frankfurt offers visitors the opportunity to discover a contemporary perspective on Freund’s photographic legacy.
