"UNSEEN" - Julian Kramer
Leica Project Room Nuremberg presents "UNSEEN" by Julian Kramer.

Photography is often regarded as a faithful representation of reality. The works of Julian A. Kramer challenge this assumption, frequently revealing what was not visible at the moment the photograph was taken, or what may never have existed in the first place.

Julian A. Kramer went to school in Nuremberg, now lives in Munich, and spends much of his time traveling for work with an American technology company. He photographs wherever he happens to be. His photographs are neither staged nor arranged; instead, they follow the tradition of street photography: observed, discovered, and only later curated into cohesive series.

In his series Autoportraits, the owner or driver of the car is absent. What remains are the traces that were left behind: a view through the windshield into an intimate living space, parked in full public view. A portrait without a person, decipherable only through what that person has left behind. Following exhibitions in New York and Munich, the series is now being shown for the first time in his hometown Nuremberg.

The photographic series Looming Danger explores the idea of impending death in everyday life. Captured with impeccable timing and the tension of a disaster scene, these images depict situations in which, in reality, nothing is actually happening. The sense of threat is created within the image, not in the world itself. The series premieres in Nuremberg.

Classic scenes of street photography complement both series, drawing attention to what is already in plain sight yet often overlooked: fleeting encounters, peculiar situations, and unexpected connections in public space, made visible only through the act of photographic composition.

Viewing the works of Julian A. Kramer means constantly shifting roles: at times as voyeur, catching a glimpse not meant for them; at times as sociologist, reading the silent order of public space; at times as an archaeologist, reconstructing from fragments and hints something that may never have existed at all.
