Yasuhiro Ogawa Exhibition: Dream /Silence - Between the Dream and the Silence
July 24, 2026 to October 18, 2026 | Leica Gallery Tokyo

“The Dreaming“ is a series composed of monochrome photographs made during the artist’s extensive travels around the world over many years. Looking back at these negatives later in life, what remained was not a record of journeys, but memories resembling dreams. Light and landscapes encountered in distant places, rain and mist, and the atmosphere of anonymous streets gradually transformed over time, living on as quiet echoes within the traveler’s memory.

Into the Silence” was created as an homage to Oku no Hosomichi (The Narrow Road to the Deep North) by the Japanese poet Matsuo Bashō. Fascinated by Bashō’s haiku since his youth, Ogawa traveled through northern Japan as a wanderer drawn to the act of journeying itself. There, he confronted the region’s climate, seasons, and the passage of time flowing through profound silence. What emerges in these photographs is not merely landscape, but solitude, longing, and a deep passion for life encountered along the way.

Both series are united by a shared contemplation of memories that waver like dreams and of time that continues to flow quietly.
