Capturing the ambiguous light. Fashion and still life photography.
LESS is a photographer based in Seoul. From snaps of fleeting moments of youth to fine art and commercial photography, his works cover broad topics in various styles. Most recently, the still life he has been shooting for his personal work is fruit.
Leica has always evolved to design cameras the way the generation wanted. With Leica SL3, the 'light and dark' part of subjects can be easily controlled.
“One day, I happened to see a real-looking fake in a pile of fruit. It sounds funny, but I got the impression that it was a perfect failure, a triumph of the fake.”
“My work requires a lot of observation and for that, I've been using the SL3 and the M-Macro lens to photograph things that I can only see when I get closer. I wanted to see the subtle differences in the shadows, in a way that the light is a little bit more ambiguous in different parts, that things are not so obvious.”
“Leica SL3 is very comfortable to shoot with the tiltable display and the vertical display that adjusts automatically when the camera is turned.”
LESS also worked with SL3 for the Arena Homme+ magazine editorial shoot and the RISE&BELOW campaign photoshoot. For the photoshoot of ‘RISE&BELOW’, a men’s clothing brand, he took quick photos while moving directly to capture the moment of the Korean band ‘Cadejo’ playing. Moreover, the Arena Homme+ editorial shooting was when LESS had to shoot at a high ISO. But with the SL3, he had no trouble with grain or high-ISO noise. Resulting in wonderful shots even with actively moving subjects or dim light.
Leica SL3 is designed to be the closest and fastest to the eyes of photographers. I'm quite happy and satisfied with the camera.
LESS has been working as a photographer since 2004 after majoring in photography at Chung-Ang University. From fashion editorial work with magazines like Vogue, Dazed, and GQ to numerous personal works including his solo exhibition "LESS: RAWTEENSTAR", he has filled up his photography world with a unique style of his own in various art categories.
