With the opening of the first Leica Gallery in Wetzlar 50 years ago, the company laid the foundation for its cultural commitment, a successful concept that continues today through a network of 27 galleries around the world.

In collaboration with Leica gallery directors from across the globe, an exciting and diverse exhibition has been created, featuring many Leica classics alongside numerous new discoveries. From this collection of favorite images, the selection for Personal Perspectives was curated. Just as diverse as the programs of the Leica Galleries themselves, the exhibition presented at the new Leica Gallery Düsseldorf is equally multifaceted. The spectrum ranges from contemporary photography to the great Leica classics. Numerous photojournalistic positions are represented alongside fine art works, spanning portraiture, reportage, and, naturally, the genre of street photography, which is perhaps more closely associated with Leica photography than any other. Visitors can rediscover many winners of the Leica Oskar Barnack Award and the Leica Hall of Fame Award, while also encountering younger photographic voices that enter into surprising dialogues with legendary Leica photographers. In this way, the anniversary exhibition presents both history and stories, always from a personal perspective and supported by profound expertise.

The exhibition also provides a compelling and exemplary demonstration of the significance of the Leica Galleries. They are places of encounter, reflection, and exchange between photographers and an international audience. They offer space for visual narratives that explore historical, political, and social themes while encouraging discussion and dialogue. For half a century, Leica Galleries have stood for photographic excellence and diversity. This legacy is brought together in a concentrated presentation of 50 outstanding Leica photographs.
