Euljiro: A Tribute to Seoul’s Elders

Korea, renowned for its K-pop, cuisine and beauty innovations, is a country resolutely turned toward the future. Yet behind this rapid modernity lie the generations who made it possible.

In Euljiro, a working-class neighborhood in old Seoul, Pape San encountered a precious generation: artisans, shopkeepers and everyday figures deeply rooted in the soul of the city. Born in France into a Peul family from Senegal where elders hold a central place, and living in Korea since 2017, Pape San found in Euljiro a familiar resonance. A living memory, gestures that speak and gazes that leave their mark.

“Euljiro” is a photographic stroll. A tender, attentive and sincere look at a generation that is too often overlooked. Far from pity, this exhibition is a celebration of their presence, their quiet strength and their unique style.
