Leica Geovid R SE: Responsible hunting with the unrivaled best
With the new Geovid R SE Edition, Leica Sport Optics makes it easy for hunters to choose binoculars with a rangefinder. The four models in the SE Edition offer premium optics and rangefinding for the price of a standard glass. So why buy hunting binoculars without a rangefinder when “2-in-1” is available at a comparable price? Four models of the Leica Geovid R SE Edition are now available, covering practically all applications.
Wetzlar, Germany. September 2024. Twenty years ago, Leica presented the second-generation Leica Geovid with a fully-integrated rangefinder, built like a normal glass with an articulated bridge and central focusing. Based on this model series, the Leica Geovid R was rebuilt in 2022, on a completely redesigned platform. The Leica Geovid R SE Edition now makes it easy for responsible hunters to get started with the “2-in-1” concept. The combination of high optical performance, extremely precise and fast rangefinding, rugged mechanics and easy handling has been taken further. With a Geovid R SE, the hunter is perfectly equipped for all hunting situations. All at the price point of comparable binoculars without a rangefinder. Leica Geovid – the genuine article, from its inventor!
Optimum image quality
The Leica Geovid R SE delivers excellent image quality. The captivating optics are best in class, nearly identical to non-rangefinder binoculars. So there’s no need to do without the laser rangefinder, especially since there is no difference in price. Color brilliance, resolution, and image contrast are decisive, for example, when identifying animal species. Edge-to-edge sharpness lets users observe smallest details in any situation. High color fidelity makes the finest nuances visible. The Leica Geovid R SE fully meets the requirements of ambitious users. And all this in Leica’s entry-level segment. In addition, Leica draws on extensive experience in efficiently suppressing stray light. This is achieved in part by special apertures in the beam path, and leads to further improvement in image quality. Extremely low component tolerances and constant monitoring during production guarantee precise adjustment of the entire optical system. The rugged mechanics allow practically unrestricted, continuous use. The valuable optics are protected by a multi-layer coating.
Intuitive operation
When using Leica Geovid R SE laser binoculars, users should be free to concentrate fully on observation. To this end, design and functionality must enable intuitive operation. This has been achieved perfectly with the Leica Geovid R SE. The binoculars can be taken straight out of the packaging and put to use, after inserting the supplied battery.
With the large, easy-grip wheel, it’s possible to focus in a flash – using only the fingertips, even in gloves. Smooth-running Leica mechanics will impress any user. The massive articulated bridge makes it easy and safe to adjust the eye relief, while conveying an almost indestructible ruggedness.
Optimizing the ergonomics also includes placing the control buttons in easily accessible positions. Rangefinding is controlled with just two buttons. The Leica Geovid R SE displays the direct distance to the target point at the push of a button.
Last but not least, the Geovid R SE can be switched from meters to yards, and vice-versa.
Highest precision
Light travels at about 300,000 kilometers per second. The Leica Geovid R SE emits a laser beam and measures how long it takes for this beam to reflect off the target object and return to the binoculars. From this unimaginably brief interval, the integrated Leica electronics calculate the target distance – with incredible precision. Thus, the Geovid R SE is ideal for very long shots at up to 1500 meters, and also for bow hunters at shorter distances. Since a flying arrow describes a very pronounced ballistic curve, exact measurements at close range are of particular importance.
With the Geovid R SE, most measuring errors are reliably avoided. Here, the high-quality rangefinder reveals its strengths. Faced with adverse weather conditions such as rain, extreme temperatures, or poorly reflective objects, the Geovid R SE performs reliably in all situations. The solid aluminum housing – enclosed in particularly durable rubber armoring – protects the precise mechanics and the electronic components against shocks and the elements.
To ensure that only the desired target object is measured – not other small objects that cross the path of the laser – the Geovid R SE is equipped with intelligent secondary-target logic. For example, the desired range to the buck is found, but the small bird on a fence is ignored. At close range, grasses and branches are also reliably filtered out. Measurements can be taken safely and without worry, even when stalking or shooting from the edge of a meadow.
Which Geovid R SE model for which purpose?
Leica Geovid R SE 8x42
The convenient daylight and twilight specialist features a wide field of view and a very steady image. It is the perfect glass for stalking, where a generous view is needed to find the game. Very little image wobble allows for comfortable extended observation and accurate identification of game. The 8x magnification is absolutely sufficient for mid-range distances. Can be used in early dusk.
Leica Geovid R SE 10x42
This daylight glass with good twilight performance is the perfect instrument for the advanced observer needing higher magnification. 10x magnification makes it easy to accurately observe specific areas at slightly greater distances. Even more precise observation of features is possible. Whenever minute detail is important and the user is fairly experienced, this is the ideal choice.
Leica Geovid R SE 8x56
This lightweight glass with a 7-mm exit pupil guarantees successful use into deep dusk. Proven optical values make this model ideal for the raised hide. Extended observation is possible without fatigue. The very bright, clear image is immediately apparent. A real night glass that can be operated easily – even in winter wearing thick gloves. As with all Leica Geovid R SE models, display brightness is automatically regulated in the dark.
Leica Geovid R SE 15x56
With 15x magnification, this easy-grip glass specializes in exceptional applications. Thanks to the very high magnification, details can be clearly seen at very long distances. Finding game in vast landscapes is easy for the experienced observer. For a steadier image, a support is advised. These binoculars are predestined for long-range shooting. Beyond the shooting range and raised hide, their balanced weight and shape also suit more dynamic hunts.
