Opera in Focus: A Photographer's Reflection
This is the story of a lifelong love affair with opera, sparked by childhood experiences and solidified through a chance encounter. From the enchanting memories of early opera visits to the transformative moment of being offered a photography opportunity at an esteemed opera house, Xiomara's passion for the art form shines through.
Each opera performance becomes a deeply personal experience, as if the entire production is staged solely for her. Inspired by the intimacy and magic of the opera, she finds purpose in capturing its essence through photography. With each click of the camera, she seeks to immortalize the raw emotions and timeless beauty of opera, preserving the fleeting moments for posterity.
In her series, Xiomara captured ballet dancer Claudia Czyz and mezzo-soprano opera singer Maria Radoeva.
"There must be a reason why for 200 years, people have gathered in the sacred halls of opera houses, armed with these glasses not only to experience the magic of music and emotions but also to bring something closer—the passionate gestures, the longing to see the facial expressions, the tender moments between the notes.
Why do I photograph the opera? Because with every click, I try to capture the pulse of these emotions, encapsulated in timelessness, to preserve the experienced and document it not just in memory but in an image that lasts."
