Robin Lowe invites viewers on a grand tour encompassing European rationalist architecture conceived during a turbulent historical climate and the elegance of modernism in post-war United States.
Through Robin's lens, the architecture is stripped of its political and social milieu. What remains are formal qualities that echo one another through time — clean lines and geometries, concrete and steel, the heroic and the aspirational.
These icons of the built environment become reinterpreted as sculptural forms, rising from various geographies and inspiring the onlooker with their timeless spirit and beauty.
Robin Lowe, a Leica Camera Australia Ambassador and Akademie Instructor, is a photographer and artist based in Melbourne. He studied under the seminal Australian photographer Carol Jerrems in the mid-1970s, after which he pursued a career and artistic practice in photography.
Robin developed a diverse portfolio of work that includes advertising, portraiture, and architectural assignments as he continued to refine his experiments with black and white and colour darkroom techniques.
Robin's vision is eclectic and responsive to light and form. He travels frequently and allows his interest in art, architecture, and alternative processes to guide his artistic projects across both digital and film mediums. His editorial assignments have been published across books and magazines and his artwork is held in private collections internationally.
In 2019, Robin won the coveted Lorenzo IL Magnifico award at The Florence International Biennale of Contemporary Art and Design.
